How to Play PVZ Fusion
Research reviewed October 2026 · Mechanics verified against the community wikis
PVZ Fusion looks like Plants vs Zombies — until you stack two plants on one tile and they become something new. Here’s the full game, explained.
THE CORE MECHANIC
How Fusion Works

Stack two plants — get one hybrid (artwork; illustrated preview)
Select a plant’s seed packet and plant it directly on top of a compatible plant already on the lawn. The two merge into a hybrid with combined traits. The tutorial teaches it in level one:
- Sunflower + Peashooter = Sunshooter — makes sun and shoots peas.
- Three Peashooters fused = Gatling Pea — fusion chains stack upward.
- Cherry-shooter + Cherry Bomb = Cherry-bomber — 300 damage every 3 seconds, unlocked via Fusion Challenge.
Only compatible pairs fuse — and the strongest tiers need unlocking first (see below).
PROGRESSION
The Fusion Tiers
Fusions climb a ladder — each tier re-fuses into the next:
| Tier | How it’s made | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Common | Fuse 2 base plants | Sunshooter (Sunflower + Peashooter) |
| Upgraded | Re-fuse a Common with more plants | Gold Sunflower |
| Advanced = Super | 3-plant fusion; recipe unlocked via Fusion Challenge | Cherry-bomber |
| Titan | Three plants in a pattern + Jicamagicker on the center | 2-tile giants like the Cob Cannon style |
| Odyssey | Fuse 2 fusions with the Glove — Odyssey modes only | Gatling Doom, Oblivion-shroom |
| Infusible | No formula — spawned by other fusions or RNG | Surprise-box plants |
“Advanced” and “Super” are the same tier under two names. “Ultimate” is community slang for very strong late-game plants — not an official tier on the wiki.
GAME MODES
Modes Worth Knowing

One game, many battlefields (artwork; illustrated preview)
- Adventure — the main campaign across Day, Night, Pool, Fog, and Roof. Finishing it unlocks Tower Defense.
- Odyssey — the endgame: draft modifiers between rounds, spend Odyssey Points in the shop, and fuse Odyssey-tier plants. Sub-modes include Survival, Last Stand, and the brutal Survival Purgatory.
- Adventure: Tower Defense — 18 stages on winding-path maps with plant upgrade paths; unlock by finishing Adventure and tapping the lamp on the title screen.
- Travel Mode — pick routes across travel maps with difficulty options.
- Challenge hub — Fusion Challenges (unlock Advanced recipes), Ten-flag Challenges, Minigames, Garden Defense, Vasebreaker.
- Zen Garden — grow plants between battles; seedlings can drop from any map.
- Abyss — 30-stage gauntlet; big starting sun, no manual sun production, plants carry between stages.
- Super Custom Levels — build your own stages (added v3.5): scenes, waves, rules, even node-based events.
DIFFICULTY
Six Difficulties, 0 to 5
PVZ Fusion has named difficulty settings that scale zombie spawns and buffs:
| Level | Name | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Easy | Original-game spawn rates |
| 1 | Casual | 3x spawns |
| 2 | Normal | 5x spawns |
| 3 | Veteran | 7x spawns |
| 4 | Merciless | 10x spawns; zombies resist 30% damage, +10% speed |
| 5 | Are You Sure? | 10x spawns; 60% damage resist, +20% speed, halved charm chances, ultimate zombies on final waves |
Start on Easy or Normal — difficulty 5 is a genuine endgame flex, and Tower Defense caps at Merciless until you clear every stage.
BEGINNER TIPS
Five Tips for New Players
- Economy first. Sunshooter lines (Sunflower + Peashooter) pay for everything — get sun flowing before the first big wave.
- Learn one fusion chain deeply instead of ten shallowly. The Cherry line (Cherry-shooter → Cherry-bomber → Gatling Cherry-bomb) carries far into the game.
- Beat Fusion Challenges early. Each one unlocks an Advanced recipe permanently — free power.
- Read the Almanac. The in-game encyclopedia documents every plant and zombie you’ve met — the English community builds translate it.
- Back up your save.
