Signing Keys: Why Switching Builds Wipes Saves
Every APK is digitally signed by whoever built it. Android uses that signature as identity: two APKs with the same package name but different signatures are treated as different apps, and Android refuses to install one over the other.
- Chinese build → English build: different signatures → you must uninstall first → uninstalling deletes your save.
- Same build, newer version: same signature → install over the top, save kept.

playerData.json(atAndroid/data/com.LanPiaoPiao.PlantsVsZombiesRH/files/) before any switch — it’s your entire progress in one file.
This is the #1 cause of “lost my save” complaints in the community — and no download site explains it. Now you know.

How to Verify an APK Before Installing
Check the file before you tap install (artwork; illustrated preview)
- Check the source URL. Real builds come from the translators’ GitHub releases pages. A random blog’s “direct link” is where repacks live.
- Match the version. The file should name a real, dated build (v4.0.5 Chinese, v4.0-release-2 English). “English v4.0.5 Android” doesn’t exist from any verified source.
- Check the size. ~600–650 MB is the honest range. A 40 MB “PVZ Fusion APK” is not the game.
- Scan it. Your phone’s built-in scanner or an online scanner — 30 seconds.
- Watch the permissions. Storage is normal. Contacts, SMS, or call access from a tower-defense game is a red flag — deny and delete.
